Do you REALLY love NY? Visit the Museum of the City of New York...

Times Square in 1919

A very interesting tip outside of the main WONDERFUL museum circuit in NY is the Museum of the City of New York. This is for those who want to learn more about the marvelous NYC!!!

Museum of the City of New York

Very well organized and with very detailed explanations, the Museum of the City of New York takes the visitor to a trip through the history of the city... The Museum presents facts from the origins of the city, when the Dutch Republic first founded New Amsterdam as a trading colony in the 17th century, up to nowadays  (yeah! NY had been owned by the Dutch and called "New Amsterdam"... Right after, NY belonged to the United Kingdom and only in 1776 the state of NY was founded!).

What I find very interesting about the Museum of the City of New York is the fact that it is not a hypocritical museum. It reports ALL periods of the city, including the most embarrassing ones as when, in the 80s, the city had been taken over by violence, drugs, etc...

Where the Museum is located?
The Museum of the City of New York is located on the Upper East Side on 5th avenue between 103rd and 104th St. The nearest subway stations are the number 6 (green line), station 103rd St., and the number 2 or 3 (red line), station 110th St. The complete address is 1220 5th Avenue, here is a map to make things easier:

The museum is closed on Mondays (but it opens on holiday Mondays!!!). It usually works from Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 5pm. The suggested ticket price (Yeah! Suggested, you pay whatever you want to or can pay - I love NY!!) is $10 - $6 for seniors and students. Here is the museum website if you want more detailed info: www.mcny.org

P.S. If you have never been in NY, or to the Metropolitan Museum, the Natural History and the MOMA, leave the MCNY for later... This tip is more appropriate for those who will have a longer stay in the city, or already know the above mentioned museums, or for those who want to experience different things and learn more about NY...

Uma dica fora do circuito básico dos MARAVILHOSOS Museus de NYC é o Museum of the City of New York.

Onde fica o Museu?
O Museum of the City of New York fica no Upper East Side (bem Up mesmo) de frente para o Central Park entre as ruas 103 e 104!
